Mt. McGinnis … 2 trips in 4 days

My trail running has been interesting this year … instead of spreading my runs out all over the Juneau Ridges, I seem to concentrate on a mountain a week.  I did Thunder Mtn 3x is 2 weeks, Mt. Roberts 3x in several weeks and now Mt. McGinnis 2x in 4 days!

Wednesday morning promised to be sunny and clear, I had the obligation of working a night shift that evening so I wanted to wear myself out in the morning so I could nap.  I mass texted several friends and the one agreed to meet me at 0700 at the West Glacier trailhead so that we could run up McGinnis.  It was such a beautiful morning!  I have never been up that high that earlier in the morning so the warm, not too hot sun was perfect.  The highlight was seeing a mountain goat 75 yards away who did not care one bit that we were that close.  He actually laid down in the snow as we got closer!

McGinnis Mtn is right next to the Mendenhall Glacier and you can see it snaking down from the icefields and into the Mendenhall Lake.

Saturday Lee and I decided to do a hike and he suggested McGinnis of all mountains.  He and I have not been up there in about 4 years … not counting my summit 3 days earlier.
